LG Shine KE970

LG Shine is a slide-design phone, and is very much intended as a fashion statement. Whereas the Chocolate was dark and mysterious, with its hidden touch sensitive keypad, the Shine positively sparkles with light and has a more conventional keypad. The reason for the name "Shine" is that the phone is highly reflective, having a shiny stainless steel body and a large LCD display that turns into a mirror when not in use. It's definitely a cool-looking phone and one that will attract attention. The photo here doesn't do it justice. Be aware though that the metal casing does have a tendency to pick up fingerprints and scratches.
Features of the LG Shine :-
2 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus, flash and 2x digital zoom
Video recorder
Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 320 pixels
Stereo music player (MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC++ file formats)

LG Secret KF750

The LG Secret KF750 is the third in LG's Black Label series - the first two being the Chocolate and the Shine. Like its predecessors, the Secret is a visually stunning phone. The Secret is touchscreen controlled, and uses "Neon Touch". Neon Touch provides a visual response to touch, so you know when you've activated a button. Watch blue lights flicker as you touch the screen - it's great fun for at least the first week of ownership! Not everyone will take to the touchscreen controls, but these kinds of phones have been around for long enough now that many people will have some previous experience of touchscreens.
Features of the LG Secret KF750 :-
5 megapixel camera with autofocus, macro, 16x digital zoom and flash
Video camera with 120 fps video recording for slow motion playback
3G video calling
Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 320 pixels (2.4 inches)

LG KF700

LG boast that the KF700 is the world's first phone with three separate input methods. Don't think so! Whilst it's true that the KF700 does have three input methods (touchscreen, alphanumeric keypad and shortcuts), it's not the first (this was probably the Sony Ericsson P800 back in 2003!) Anyway, let's take a look at the three input methods and see how well they work. Firstly, the Viewty has proved that a touchscreen user interface can work well for everything except texting. The KF700 clearly builds on the Viewty's success, delivering a polished touchscreen UI with the benefit of a conventional keypad for fast texting. When sending texts, you can use the keypad for entering letters, with frequently used symbols available on the touchscreen. It's a strong combination and should please most people. The touchscreen is big (at 3 inches diagonally), which is essential for making a user friendly UI. The shortcut dial isn't a huge innovation, but provides a quick way into various applications.

Features of the LG KF700 :-
3 megapixel camera with autofocus and 2x digital zoom and LED flash
Video camera & 3G video calling
Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 480 pixels (3 inches)

Introduction

LG are one of the world's electronic giants, and have made a big effort in the mobile arena in the past year or two. Never afraid of innovative designs, some of LG's recent phones have proven to be awkward to use, but LG are showing that they can learn from their mistakes. We look forward to see where this company is going in 2008, especially with their iPhone-beating range of touchscreen phones.

BlackBerry 8320

The BlackBerry Curve 8320 incorporates virtually all of the features of the BlackBerry 8310, so read our review of the 8310 for an in-depth look at what this device can do. The one difference between the two is that the 8320 doesn't have GPS satellite navigation, but it does have WLAN connectivity. This means that you can access broadband internet speeds when within range of a WLAN-enabled computer (at work, at home, or in a WiFi zone such as Starbucks.) This could be handy for synching data with your home or work PC, as well as fast downloading of emails or web browsing.
Features of the BlackBerry 8320 :-
2 megapixel camera with flash and digital zoom
LCD display: 320 x 240 pixels, 65000 colours

BlackBerry 8310

The BlackBerry 8310 is our favourite of the current Curve series of BlackBerries. More compact than the 88xx series, yet with a full 35-key QWERTY keypad, the Curve series treads the line between dedicated business machine and consumer-friendly smartphone. The 8310 retains the core features that made BlackBerry into a household name and indispensable business tool: full keypad and push email. It also adds some new features that make the Curve more like a multimedia smartphone: a camera, media player and GPS satellite navigation. It is this last feature - the GPS navigation - that distinguishes the 8310 from the other Curves (the 8300 & 8320).
All of the BlackBerry Curves are essentially the same, except that the 8310 has GPS navigation, the 8320 has WiFi and the poor little 8300 has neither. It's obviously a personal choice as to whether GPS or WiFi is the more useful tool. In our opinion, the GPS is more useful, but that's just us! The GPS implementation in the 8310 is a good one, and can be used both on foot and in the car.

Features of the BlackBerry 8310 :-
2 megapixel camera with flash and digital zoom

BlackBerry 8300

The BlackBerry 8300 is exactly the same as the BlackBerry Curve 8310, except that it doesn't have GPS navigation. Read our review of the 8310, since all of the comments apply equally to both phones, apart from this one difference.
